Like every year we go to Al Maha Desert Resort & Spa to unwind, relax and recharge.

There is no better place to get inspired and find some rest to the busy day to day life. Located in the heart of the desert, surrounded by nature and gorgeous animals, this years visit has truly been special. The arrival has been smooth, check in done in a few minutes to one of the lovely suites. As both, my husband myself and I are in the food industry, it is our nature to check out the food menu first. Since at arrival it was the time to have a little snack, we have ordered a few items of the menu. Shortly after, an amazingly tasty variety of food has been served on deck. The Executive Chef , David Miras and his team have done an excellent creation. The afternoon chilling in the private pool with views into the desert, give you the impression to be far from a city. We were once again amazed to see Oryx and Gazelles as well as some really lovely birds very close to our suite. It was my Birthday on that day, and no, I did not make my own cake. Chef David made a cake especially for me and had sent it to our suite direct, since it was “Earth Hour” at that very moment, we had only a candle burning on the patio. Luckily he had sent one little candle as well with the cake. I cut the cake, and took the first bite, the world stopped for a minute—— it tasted delicious, like  a symphony in your mouth. What a combination of ingredients and textures. This was the perfect moment, an amazing surrounding, and the best company. It is one of the most incredible and and memorable Birthdays that I have had. Thank you Al Maha Desert Resort & Spa, and a very big thank you to chef David Miras and his team, who always look so well after us. Thank you, Sibille.

A few month back, I got a phone call form one the the most popular arabic magazine called Zahrat Al Khaleej.

The photo-shoot was for D&G. After the brief of the theme and the idea behind the whole idea, I started sketching an idea to create a concept  that matches the theme. I was very exited since this was the very first photo-shoot for Iconycs Cakes, and the cakes being incorporated into a look on a professional model was indeed challenging.

I like challenges, and there fore this project was just ideal for me. A cake -hat, a brooch, perhaps a sugar Bow? Oh no , a much better idea a sugar bow cookie? I started to create several options made of pastry, sugar and cake. I like to mention one special person into this Blog that I find truly amazing. Muroj Saadi a very talented fashion and beauty stylist. When I delivered the items to the shoot, she placed my pastry jewels and cookies on the model on places I had never thought they could look the way they did. ( Have a look at the cookie bow. It was supposed to be placed on the hair, but Muroj made a necklace out of it ) This was certainly an inspirational moment and wonderful experience for Iconycs Cakes. A big thank you to the rest of the team that helped to make this happen. Here are the final looks. Enjoy

One of my recent cake orders were a little different than usually. A lady called me up to order a cake for her 30.

Birthday, how exiting, I love those important birthdays. Before coming up with a design, I usually ask a few questions in order to know more about the customers taste and likes as well as dislikes. This one though was a special one to me. Coming form the beauty and fashion background, I admire art. I have been applying make up on countless faces, and thought since I design cakes now that I am done with it. Though this cake from this lovely lady made me re-live my past in a special way. Her favorite artists were hard to translate into a cake design, so I decided to get out my cake drawing brushes and started painting one of a designs of her favorite artist. Enjoy.
